Leh

Leh is a town of approx. 30,000 inhabitants in the Leh district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh, the seat of which was in the Leh Palace, the former mansion of the royal family of Ladakh.

Located at an altitude of 3,524 metres, Leh is situated in a very scenic part of India as it is bounded by two of the world’s biggest mountain ranges, which are home to numerous monasteries. While staying in Leh, it is worth taking time to visit some of them (the most famous being the Leh Palace and the Thiksey Monastry), which will also be helpful for visitors to get acclimatized to the high altitude gradually before progressing further in Ladakh.
