Namibia

Namibia only ranks as the 34th country in the world for its total area of 825,000 sqkm, and with its population of circa 2 million people, it is rated 235th country for density of population: 2.54 habitants per sqkm. This allows Namibia to possess some of the most open, untouched and stunning landscapes in Africa, including the world famous orange dunes of Sossusvlei in the south west of the country.

Toward the north of Namibia is Damaraland and its population of desert adapted elephants, rhinoceros and lions. Wildlife is also part of the attraction of Etosha National Park. In the extreme north is the empty and difficult to access Skeleton Coast National Park with its seemingly barren expanse of stone and sand, famous for its fog and the number of shipwrecks along the coast.

Further south, near the South African border, is Fish River Canyon, one of the largest canyons in the world – stretching for 160 km, and reaching 27 km across at its widest and nearly 550 m at its deepest.

Thanks to its very efficient infrastructure allowing easy access to most of the country from Windhoek, its very centrally located capital, Namibia is a natural destination for road adventures and safaris. This is part of the German influence and legacy from colonial times that is still reflected in some of its buildings and traditions.
