Lake Baringo

Lake Baringo, with an area of 130 sqkm, is a freshwater lake considered a Mecca for bird watching in Kenya.

Over 470 bird species have been recorded.

One particular opportunity that this lake offers is the opportunity of boat safaris and bird walks. This allows approaching the famous African Fish Eagles and photographing them when they catch fish, and observing numerous herons, including Goliath herons, as well as kingfishers, including the famous “Malachite“, and countless varieties of weavers.

The banks of Lake Baringo also home to the fishing village of the Njemps, a tribe originating from the Maasai and the Samburu people, who criss-cross the lake on fragile boats made of balsa wood, despite the dangers of hippos and crocodiles.
