Kibale Forest National Park

Kibale Forest National Park contains, within its area of 795 sqkm, one of the loveliest and most varied tracts of tropical forest in Uganda. It has one of the highest diversity and concentration of primates in Africa, which explains why Kibale is one of Africa’s foremost research sites with some researchers focusing on the chimpanzees and other primates found in the park, and others investigating Kibale’s ecosystems, wild pigs and fish species, among other topics.

Kibale is home to a large number of endangered chimpanzees, as well as the red colobus monkey, which is considered Endangered, and the rare L’Hoest’s monkey, which is considered Vulnerable.

The park is also home to over 325 species of birds including the African Pitta, Green-breasted Pitta, Afep Pigeon, White naped Pigeon, Crowned Eagle, Red chested Owlet, Black Bee eater, Yellow rumped Tinkerbird, Little Greenbul, Blue breasted Kingfisher, African Grey Parrot, Scaly-breasted Illadopsis , Brown Illadopsis, Dusky Crimsonwing, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Black-eared Ground Thrush and the Abyssinian Ground-thrush, etc.
