Geysers of the Tatio

The Geysers of the Tatio count 80 columns of steam rising up to 6 metres high. They provide a wonderful spectacle of water up to 85°C emerging from volcanic rocks and turning into steam on contact with cold air. The minerals that abound in the land in this region transform the landscape into a palette of many colours. The area is exciting but must be explored carefully and with a guide, as the ground is shifting and the mud and vapours can cause severe burns. In places, however, hot, but not scorching, water forms pools in which swimming is possible.
