Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is the capital and most important city of Argentina with a population of just over 3 million habitants, located on the west bank of the Río de la Plata river at the mouth of the Atlantic Ocean in the central-east region of the country.

While Spanish navigator Juan Díaz de Solís was the first European to enter the Río de la Plata in 1516, his expedition was shortened by an attack by Amerindians. It was then Pedro de Mandoza who, in search of gold in 1536, was the first to give this agglomeration its present name. Buenos Aires has a very rich history, marked by several invasions and struggles for independence until the end of the dictatorships and the establishment of the current democratic regime.

The most important touristic and cultural places are located in the historical centre of the city, a sector formed by the districts of Monserrat and San Telmo. Buenos Aires is often considered the most European of cities in South America with an architecture influenced by several European countries. It is a city that deserves a full stay and visit.
