Rupert Island

On Rupert Island, located opposite Carlos III Island, Magellanic penguins form the largest breeding colony, with the number of birds exceeding the ones in Monmouth and Charles Islands. The latest population estimate, in 2007, estimated close to 19,000 animals.

Other marine birds seen in large numbers are the skuas; this island has the largest colony in the country of about 12,000 birds.
