Ialatsara is a private reserve built around one of the last primary tropical rainforests in altitude (1,000 hectares at 1,000 to 1,500 metres above sea level) of the region.
This reserve was created by a couple whose initiative, in partnership with the Ministry of Waters and Forests of Madagascar, aims at preserving the last shreds of primary forest present in Ialatsara and the biodiversity of the site.
This environment allows the discovery of 6 species of lemurs, including the Milne-Edwards Propitheca, which is the subject of research programs, Gray Hapalemur, Red-bellied lemur, Lépilémur, etc., as well as 7 species of chameleons (including the smallest in the world, the Brookesia), many species of birds, reptiles and various plants.
Late afternoon and early evening walks often allow visitors to observe and photograph small lemurs, microcubes, as well as chameleons and tree frogs.
