Turkana

The Turkana are another tribe of shepherds of Nilotic origin. They settled around the lake that now bears their name. Traditionally, Turkana dress in animal skins and cloth woven by women, and men still carry around a small seat (“ekicholong”) that allows them not to sit on the hot sand.

Their houses are easily recognizable by their round shape, covered with palm leaves. But it is their culture, unified with their religion, which is particularly interesting.

Every day, despite the harsh climate, a Turkana must recognize the positive side of life, considering the water, food, livestock, women, children, etc.
