Diane Fossey

The cause of the mountain gorilla was made famous by the work of American zoologist Diane Fossey who studied gorilla groups in the Volcanoes Region for 18 years.

Her discoveries include how female gorillas move from one group to another over the years, the way they communicate through vocalization and the organization of relations and the hierarchy of a group or family.

Her book “Gorillas in the Mist” is an account of her years, her research and conservation work in Rwanda.
