A day at a pousada

A day at a pousada, meaning a ranch in Portuguese, is a true immersion experience in an environment far from modern Western life. Guided by the objective of being able to observe and photograph wildlife and landscapes under the best light, a typical day at a pousada stars at dawn with an excursion on foot, in a pickup (with a raised platform, and comfortable seats and benches, plus a canopy, which constitutes and excellent mobile observatory), or by boat depending on the location. This offers 3 to 5 hours of discovery of the large expanses of the ranch, punctuated by a full picnic breakfast. From time to time, guests can get off the truck to observe and photograph from ground level.

Usually, the return to the lodges takes place around 11am or late morning, giving time to rest and relax before lunch. The group then leaves again in the afternoon when the light becomes softer, around 15:30 or 16:00, until sunset.

It is also sometimes possible to go on a truck tour for a night safari after dinner to try to find jaguars, raccoons and nocturnal species such as ocelots, crab-eating foxes, large and small anteaters, and eagle-owls, amongst others. The advantage of having access to the immense area of a pousada is that the number of visitors is very limited and the organization of the days is very flexible and adapts very easily to species observed or sought.

And for guests who fancy an afternoon of rest, the presence of a pool and many birds nearby allows them to chill out in a natural and relaxing environment.
