Snow Leopard Lodge

The Snow Leopard Lodge is one of the only dedicated wildlife lodges in Ladakh. It is located in the small village of Ulley and offers superb views across the Ulley Chhu Valley. Guests have high chances of observing Ibex from here – and, if they are lucky, other wildlife including wolf, red fox and perhaps even a snow leopard.

The advantage of Ulley is that it is relatively free of tourism and of the chaos that has enveloped the first snow leopard destination – Rumbak. The other advantage is that from here guests can explore three valleys.

The lodge, a traditionally-built low stone building, is simple yet cosy and attractively furnished, with added features such as extra gas heaters, bathrooms with warm showers, comfortable mattresses, and an assortment of teas and coffees to help to alleviate the cold, making this a more comfortable alternative to high altitude camping. Guests will also be living with a Ladakhi family, learning about their lifestyle and enjoying some traditional home cooking.

The lodge has 5 rooms with 2 common bathrooms, and a dining and sitting room looking out over the valley and the surrounding hills.

The concept is to take advantage of a comfortable home base with heat, good food and little luxuries – like real coffee, comfortable beds, toilets and washing facilities – from where one can search for snow leopards and other high-altitude wildlife in relative comfort.
