Shompole Wilderness Camp

Shompole Wilderness Camp is a small luxury tented eco-camp nestled in the shade of giant fig trees on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the Shompole Conservancy, on the bottom of the Great Rift Valley. The camp is located in the Shompole group ranch and is a collaboration between the local Maasai community and Shompole Wilderness.

The hosts at the camp are the local Maasai and, long-time supporters and residents, Johann du Toit and his family who have lived and worked in the area for over ten years.

Currently, the camp counts four luxury tents overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River, which allow guests to observe the wildlife that comes down to drink from the water’s edge. The rooms are all very private with plenty of space between them. The tents all have bucket hot showers and en-suite flushing toilets. Lighting in the tents is all solar and there are no electrical sockets. There are fans in the rooms that run most of the afternoon and switch off around until midnight, when it gets a bit cooler.
