Onguma The Fort

Overlooking Etosha’s sparse and beautiful fishing array dotted with camel-thorn trees, Onguma The Fort is located in Onguma Private Reserve on the east side of Etosha National Park, and there is a water hole visible from each suite.

This magnificent pavilion with its rough walls and stone elements, has strong Moroccan influences including water channels in the main areas that provide natural air conditioning. The huge central tower offers stunning views of Etosha and Fishers Pan, and visitors to the Fort can experience some of the best sunset views in Namibia.

Built in the style of mini forts, the spacious suites are very private, and feature beautifully styled cool and airy interiors that continue the Moroccan-inspired theme and offer magical views of the plains from their private wooden terraces.

The Onguma Reserve covers an area ofover 34,000 ha, and is home to more than thirty different animal species. The fauna of the plains – including kudu, giraffes, elk, oryx, hartebeest, zebras, impalas, and many others – roam freely in the savannah and the dryland. Predators, while not as easy to spot, include lions, leopard cheetahs, and hyenas. Onguma is also home to a family of black rhinos. Finally, more than 300 species of birds can be observed in Onguma, and the reserve has the largest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Namibia.
