The Luna Salada (or Salt Moon) Hotel is one of the most extraordinary hotels in the world. It doesn’t just command a panoramic view over the glittering Salar of Uyuni, it is itself actually built from the blocks of salt mined from its surroundings.
Standing close to the edge of the Salar, just 30 km from the interesting village of Uyuni, the low buildings have white walls (constructed of blocks of salt) topped with rustic thatched roofs. But the surprise is even greater inside – with floors, furniture and beds carved, amazingly, from solid salt.
The hotel has just 23 rooms with ensuite bathrooms. They are elegantly yet simple but very comfortable. Dining takes place in a lovely dining room with a cosy fireplace and the hotel offers excellent local and international cuisine.
The Luna Salada Hotel provides a truly unique experience and a perfect place for stargazing and night photography, taking advantage of the reflection of the stars in the water of the Salar.
