Kilima Camp owes its name to its geographical position, because “kilima” means mountain in Swahili, and it therefore perfectly reflects its character perched on the escarpment of Siria overlooking the Maasai Mara.
The camp has twelve classic tents and two luxury tents, distributed on either side of the mess tent. Each tent has wooden floors and is made of canvas in either sand or neutral colors. The exterior of the tents has a veranda, and canvas safari chairs to admire the view. At the rear of the tents, there are private bathrooms with toilets and showers. Deluxe tents are more spacious and can accommodate three adults, one child under 16, and one infant.
Camp meals and social activities are centered around the mess tent in the heart of the camp. Like everywhere in the camp, the mess tent offers a spectacular view of the plains. The food is good, and international in style, reflecting the European origins of the camp founders. There is a campfire right outside the mess tent, and at dusk it is lit – making this a great place to sit with a cold drink, discuss the day’s game drives, and watch the stars appear in the sky.
Where possible, the camp strives to meet green standards by using solar lighting and electricity, and recycling water and waste. The camp also works closely with the local community, and a visit to the village during your stay is a very special experience that can be easily organized.
