Greystoke Mahale

Greystoke Mahale is a ‘one-off’. This extraordinary camp in remote western Tanzania serves up a storybook tropical forest full of chimpanzees to hang out with, Lake Tanganyika all yours to explore by boat or kayak, and mountains full of waterfalls, chimps and other gentle forest mammals, the odd leopard, and a treasure trove of birds and butterflies.

Greystoke was, and still is, the original Mahale camp and one of the very few that allows you to spend time with wild chimpanzees. The 6 open-fronted wooden chalets – with en-suite bathrooms and hot and cold running water, showers, and flush toilets – are directly overlooking the beach and lake beyond.

It is a unique place to live the outstanding experience of spending time in a remote place, off the beaten tracks, and trekking to coming up close to chimpanzees.
