Great Bear Lodge

Great Bear Lodge is a very special retreat, set in a secluded and pristine virgin forest amidst grandiose scenery. It is owned and managed by an experienced naturalist and biologist, Tom Rivest, and his partner, Marg, who provide visitors with a warm and friendly welcome. Their small team of highly trained and knowledgeable biologist guides ensure that stays are the highlight of any trip to this region. They enable guests to see, up close, bears and other wildlife in this area. Occasionally, they may even spot humpback whales in the broad estuary.

The lodge is a two-story floating lodge with eight bedrooms, each with a small shower and private toilet. The living room is a pleasant place to relax, read or socialize around the fireplace, while the library has a stock of natural history books. The guides have extensive training in ecology and biology, and are always happy to discuss the wildlife of British Columbia.

Quiet wind and solar power is in harmony with low impact ecotourism, and the lodge’s natural wood decks are a great place to enjoy a glass of wine, and take in some of British Columbia’s most beautiful and remote scenery. Visitors dine together at mealtimes, and the food is excellent. The chef uses the freshest local ingredients, and all available organic foods. One of the specialties is freshly caught salmon roasted on a cedar plank. Wine and beer are served with lunch and dinner.
