Estancia La Ernestina

Estancia La Ernestina is a typical working farm for Merino sheep. Set in 15,000 hectares with 20km of coast-line it boasts exclusive and unrivalled beach access. Nestled on the tip of Punta Norte, it is a fantastic location from which to explore the coastline and view the array of wildlife in the area.

Guests are likely to spot elephant seals, sea lions and penguins throughout the year, including the joy of calving season. Orcas may also be seen in October and November, and especially in March and April when they come right up to the beach at La Ernestina to try their luck at grabbing an unsuspecting sea lion. An amazing spectacle for the lucky few!

4×4 trips are organised daily to find and observe exceptional wildlife scenes, watch the sunset or visit the penguin colony that numbers over 5,000.

Estancia La Ernestina was founded in 1907 when a pioneer to the area, called Don Santiago Copello, bought the land of “Estancia Ernestina” named after his wife. For 94 years the Estancia has remained in the same family and today the fourth generation look after the Estancia. They were the generation who decided to open the doors to travellers and share the natural wealth of wildlife that the Estancia is blessed with. We are hugely grateful!

The house itself consists of just 6 warm and cosy rooms that overlook the sea, each with an ensuite bathroom. There is a family dining room, smokey asado room and library with open fireplace, offering a great place to relax after a day exploring the peninsula. Meals are taken communally, with fellow guests and all visitors welcomed to La Ernestina as part of the family.
