The Emerson on Hurumzi Hotel is a small boutique hotel right in the heart of Stone Town that sprawls across two beautiful old buildings dating from 1840–70. They were completely restored, joined into one small hotel, which was then tastefully decorated with antique Zanzibar furniture and carpets, many of which are original pieces from the houses.
There are 16 rooms which are all completely different in character and design. Each one is beautifully decorated to give you an idea of what Zanzibar must have been at the peak of its glory and all of the rooms have a ceiling fan (most also have air-conditioning), a large Zanzibari bed and an en-suite bathroom.
The hotel offers two restaurants: the Kidude Café, on street level, is also a place where local art is showcased and the Tower Top Restaurant which is also a spot locally famous for dinner. Sits on the roof, and with totally open sides, offer a wonderful 360-degree view across Stone Town.
This hotel is ideally placed to explore Stone Town as the Peace Memorial Museum is 800 metres away, while House of Wonders is 100 metres from the property, for instance.
