Araras Lodge is located 132 km from Cuiabá, which makes it easily accessible by road, half of the journey of which is on the famous “Transpantaneira”, a dirt road that is generally well maintained.
This lodge, surrounded by over 3,000 hectares of private land, offers rustic but sophisticated accommodation. Built in a local style in keeping with the environment, it offers a welcoming atmosphere and 19 rooms, which all have air conditioning, windows with mosquito nets, ceiling fans, and private bathrooms.
Meals are served on a large veranda, and guests can also enjoy the swimming pool – ideal for relaxing after a day spent exploring the Pantanal.
The lodge’s policy of “low environmental impact” means that group excursions are limited to a maximum of 10 people per guide, that the number of vehicles is kept to a minimum, and that employees are from the region.
The lodge offers a number of activities including photo safaris and night excursions assisted by bilingual naturalist guides, hikes in the rainforest, canoeing and horseback riding, and top-notch bird watching, which can either be performed in the forest or from the two towers, of height 12 and 25 metres, offering an uninterrupted view of the wetlands and flooded meadows. Commonly observed wild animals include tapirs, marmosets, agoutis, opossums, howler monkeys, and hyacinth macaws. Capybaras regularly walk around the dining room!
