Let yourself be tempted by an encounter with the jaguar, the king of the venerated American jungles of the Incas and Mayas, in its natural setting, in the Pantanal.

Immerse yourself in an environment extraordinarily rich in animal and plant diversity, with thousands of bird species, ranging from a few grams to several dozen pounds, and mammals as surprising as Amazonian otters, tapirs, anteaters, peccaries, agoutis, coatis, armadillos and the elusive ocelots.

Day 1: Departure to South America

Departure from Europe early evening and night flight to Sao Paulo (Brazil) direct.

Day 2: From Sao Paulo to Pantanal

Landing in Sao Paulo – Guarulhos International Airport. Clearing immigration formalities and mid-morning flight to Cuiaba Airport where arrival is scheduled for 11am approximatively.

Meet and greet with the driver guide and lunch (on own account) in Pocone, then transfer by air-conditioned minibus to the heart of the Pantanal (33 km) in the early afternoon.

Arrival at Pousada Pouso Alegre in the middle of the afternoon, leaving time to settle in the rooms and discover the multitude of birds in the immediate vicinity of the lodge.

Days 3 and 4: Land of Pousada Pouso Alegre

After a good night’s rest and breakfast, start of the activities to discover the landscapes and the wildlife of Pousada Pouso Alegre.

These two days are entirely devoted to an immersion in this ecosystem with excursions – on foot or on pickups with raised platforms – in the forests of the pousada, which has the reputation of having one of the most beautiful collections of birdlife of the Pantanal.

We aim to observe hyacinth macaws, great rufous, straight-billed and narrow-billed woodcreepers, ondulated tinamous, glittering-throated emeralds, black-fronted nunbirds, bat falcons, black-bellied antwrens, planalto slaty antshrikes, saffron-billed sparrow, etc. In the case of mammals, South American coatis, giant anteaters, tapirs, armadillos, etc., are also present.

After dinner, participants who so wish can also take part in a night drive on a pickup with raised platform to spot nocturnal birds such as spot-tailed or scissor-tail nightjars, great horned owls, crabeater foxes or ocelots.

Days 5 and 6: River and forest of Pixaim

After a last morning on the land of Pousada Pouso Alegre, departure to the south of Pantanal (32 km) to reach the region of the river and the forest of Pixaim.

Settle into the rooms of the hotel and afternoon boat trip to explore the banks of the river and discover its fauna, which includes the very rare agami and boat-billed herons, blue-throated piping-guan, black-collared hawk, up to five species of kingfisher, giant otters, etc.

When the sun starts to set, other species, such as leucopyge nightjars and large noctilions, also called “Bulldog Bat“, come to hunt insects on the bank.

The following day is also devoted to exploring this environment, with excursions on foot along the river or by boat.

Day 7: From the river and forest of Pixaim to Porto Jofre

Last exploration of the banks of the river and departure by road to the south (80 km) to reach Porte Jofre at the end of the afternoon.

Picnic lunch and numerous stops en route to explore the meadows, marshes and forests that line the Transpantaneira.

This will be an opportunity to observe and photograph birds as beautiful as red-tailed jacamars, fluvial warblers, black-jays, crested caciques, courgettes, picolettes, etc.

Arrival at the hotel for installation in the rooms and dinner.

Day 8 to day 12: Porto Jofre

These five days are entirely devoted to immersion in the ecosystems of the Cuiaba, Three Brothers and Piquiri rivers with the main objective of observing and photographing the jaguars that live there from boats that allow exploration of the banks.

Day 13: From Porto Jofre to Pousada Piuval

After breakfast, departure by road to the north (130 km), to reach the Pousada Piuval for lunch. Afternoon excursion by boat or on foot to explore the land of the pousada and its many birds.

Day 14: Land of Pousada Piuval

This day is dedicated to an immersion in this ecosystem with excursions on foot, pickups with raised platforms, or by boat in the forests and swamps of the pousada to complete the observations and look for animals such as anteaters, tapirs and crabeater foxes.

Day 15: From Pousada Piuval to Cuiaba and return

After breakfast, return by road and transfer to Cuiaba Airport (110 km) for the return flight to Sao Paulo and beyond, to Europe or to your next destination.
