For this unique safari-expedition, join professional photographer Vincent Gesser for two weeks of discovery of Northern Kenya.

The highlights of this Photographic Expedition are:

– immerse yourself in Northern Kenya and its remote, rugged and fascinating landscapes to discover a different perspective of Africa

– meet the most colourful tribes in Kenya: the Samburu, Turkana, El Molo, Gabbra and Rendille people

– Stay on the shores of Lake Turkana, known as the “Sea of Jade” and the “cradle of mankind”

– maximize the time with the tribes and the wildlife in optimal shooting conditions while benefiting from personalised advice from a professional photographer

– take part in a very rarely offered Safari – Expedition, made possible due to our association with a local operator recognised for its long experience in organizing expeditions and logistically supporting photographers and professional filmmakers in the region.

Day 1: Arrival at Nairobi

Arrival at Nairobi – Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, greet and transfer to Macushla House for overnight. Bed & Breakfast.

Vincent Gesser will meet you at the lodge and will settle you into your room.

Day 2 : From Nairobi to Lake Nakuru

Breakfast then departure by road at 8am for Lake Nakuru, arriving for lunch at the Lake Nakuru Lodge. The afternoon will be dedicated to wildlife viewing and photography with an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park.

Night at Lake Nakuru Lodge. Full Board and game drive included.

Day 3 : From Lake Nakuru to Laka Baringo

Breakfast at the lodge and morning game drive in the National Park.

Departure by road to Lake Baringo, picnic en route and arrival at your camp directly on the shores of the Lake, called Robert’s Camp.

Bird watching walk or safari by boat on the Lake in the afternoon (subject to weather conditions).

Night at Robert’s Camp or equivalent camp. Bivouac camping. Full Board.

Day 4 : From Lake Nakuru to Laka Baringo

Breakfast at the camp, as the sun starts to rise, and morning excursion on the lake.

Return to the camp for lunch and, in the afternoon, visit of the village of the Njemps, the local tribe of fishermen.

Night at Robert’s Camp or equivalent camp. Bivouac camping. Full Board.

Day 5 : From Lake Baringo to Maralal

The morning will give a last opportunity of a bird walk or a boat safari on the Lake.

Departure for the town of Maralal, with a picnic en route.

Bivouac camping. Full Board.

Day 6 : From Maralal to Baragoi

Day of entry in the “Northern Frontier District” and drive across the wild and rugged landscapes with, along the road, encounters with the Samburu tribe. Picnic en route.

Bivouac camping. Full Board.

Day 7 : From Baragoi to Loiyangalani

Morning of driving across the open plains of the Northern Frontier District.

Picnic en route and arrival on the shores of Lake Turkana in the afternoon.

Overnight stay at Palm Shade Camp. Full Board.

Day 8 : Loiyangalani

Discovery of the surroundings of Loiyangalani and visit of the fishermen village of the El Molo tribe.

Visit of the traditional village of the Turkana tribe.

Overnight stay at Palm Shade Camp. Full Board.

Day 9 : From Loiyangalani to Kalacha

Departure in the morning by road to follow further North the shores of Lake Turkana before starting the crossing of the Chalbi Desert.

Encounter with the Gabbra tribe.

Picnic en route and arrival at Kalacha in the afternon. Bivouac camping. Full Board.

The village of Kalacha is an oasis hoasting the fascinating members of the Gabbras tribe.

Day 10 : From Kalacha to Korr

Departure in the morning to continue the crossing of the Chalbi Desert followed by the Kaisut Desert.

Encounter with the Gabbra and Rendille tribes.

Picnic en route and arrival, in the afternoon, to the foot of the Matthews Range.

Bivouac camping. Full Board.

Day 11 : From Korr to Shaba National Park

Departure in the morning to reach the tarmac road and Samburu land.

Picnic en route or lunch at the lodge (subject to conditions)

Afternoon game drive in Shaba National Reserve.

Night at Sarova Shaba Game Lodge. Full Board.

Day 12 : From Shaba National Park to Buffalo Springs and Samburu National Parks

Breakfast at the lodge and morning game drive in the reserve. Picnic en route.

Arrival in Buffalo Springs and Samburu National Parks in the afternoon for a game drive.

Bivouac camping. Full Board.

Day 13 : Buffalo Springs and Samburu National Parks

As a function of the density of animals observed the day before South of the Ewaso Ngiro river, we may decide to extend the perimeter of our game drive further North and to Samburu National Park.

Bivouac camping. Full board & game drives included.

Day 14 : From Buffalo Springs National Park to Nairobi

Morning game drive.

Breakfast in the reserve followed by a departure, by road, to Nairobi.

Picnic en route.

At your arrival you will have access to a “dayroom” to freshen up.

You will then be driven to a local restaurant of your choice for dinner, and thereafter transferred to Nairobi – Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your return flight.

Indicative price : from £7,290 per person on the basis of 4 participants sharing 2 twin/double rooms or tents.

Notice:

This itinerary takes you through areas rarely visited by tourists and away from traditional safari routes. As there are no lodges or hotels in some areas, the itinerary includes eight nights bivouac / camping “Comfort”. We ask interested persons to be prepared to spend several nights in a tent.

In order to ensure the collaboration of local populations to take pictures of people in good conditions, it will be important to respect their sensitivities and the instructions communicated during the visits.

– Transport by road of track in a 4×4 vehicle (with roof hatch for game viewing) driven by a specialised driver-guide speaking English, from Nairobi to Nairobi,

– The game-drives mentioned in the itinerary

– The services of Vincent Gesser as expedition-safari leader and guide

– All transfers to activities & locations

– All Park Fees and Camping Fees (subject to possible changes)

– 1 night in Nairobi at Macushla House (3*** or equivalent), bed & breakfast only

– 1 night in Nakuru at Lake Nakuru Lodge (3*** or equivalent), full board

– 2 nights in Loiyangalani at Palm Shade Resort (basic condition), full board

– 1 night in Shaba NR at Shaba Sarova Game Lodge (3*** or equivalent), full board

– 8 nights in bivouac / camping: standing dome shaped “Comfort” canvas tents with camp beds, mattress, bedding, table, chairs. Shared camping bathroom/shower and bush toilet

– “Dayroom” the last day in Nairobi

– AAR Flying Doctors Emergency Evacuation insurance

– All local taxes applicable (subject to change)

– Electricity inverters in all vehicles for charging camera & computer batteries

– International flights to Kenya and return

– Travel or Insurances (cancellation, repatriation, luggage, other risks and any additional insurance)

– Visas to be purchased at arrival in Kenya (£30 / person in cash, indicative, subject to changes)

– Meals and drinks not mentioned or mentioned as “free” in the itinerary (e.g. dinner on last day)

– Fees for the boat excursions on Lake Baringo and donations to photograph the tribes

– Any extras of personal nature, tips, laundry and drinks not mentioned in the program, etc.
